Cox & Kings owned MEININGER Hotels will open a hotel in Budapest located in the immediate vicinity of the city centre on Csarnok tér, next to the Great Market Hall. The 184-room and 751-bed hotel is scheduled to open in spring 2018. The hotel, which will be newly constructed, will be operated by MEININGER Hotels under a 20-year lease.

Located on the Pest side of the city, in the direct vicinity of the city centre of Budapest a large variety of bars, restaurants, shopping and entertainment is right near the hotel. The Great Market Hall, the largest and oldest indoor market in Budapest, is directly next-door. Well connected to public transport the hotel will be a perfect base for MEININGER guests to explore and enjoy Budapest.

MEININGER’s investor partner in the development of its Budapest hotel Bedori Investment Kft is the subsidiary of one of the most significant construction companies in Hungary. According to the plan the construction work will begin before the end of 2015.

The new build hotel with a gross floor area of 6,600 sqm will feature 184 rooms and 751 beds on seven floors; well-equipped with TV, free wifi and en-suite bathrooms all to a high specification. Due to the flexible room concept of MEININGER the accommodation will range from classic double rooms and private multiple-bed rooms to a bed in a dormitory. All public spaces will be located on the ground floor and mezzanine including a lobby, lounge, breakfast area and bar. Exceptional for a hotel but standard and typical for a MEININGER hotel are the guest kitchen and the games zone, which will also be part of the common area. In the well-equipped guest kitchen customers can cook their own meals around the clock. The kitchen also offers a washing machine and a dryer.

Peter Kerkar, Director, Cox & Kings says: “With the signing of this agreement we are entering a new and important market. The number of tourists traveling to Budapest increased dynamically within the last years. In 2014 three million people spent 7.4 million nights in Budapest.”

MEININGER currently operates 16 hotels in 10 European cities. The unique hybrid concept of MEININGER is based upon combining the service and comfort of a hotel with the uncomplicated nature of a hostel: top locations, high-quality amenities, flexible room structure and reasonable prices.
